saw sholay yesterday night . first time with nish . both of us had seen it earlier ( who hasn’t ) but never together.
and i surprised him by spewing out almost all the dialogues . not only the famous ones like ‘kitne aadmi the’ , ‘ye haath mujhe de de thakur ‘ or ‘mausiji ….’. i remembered even the not so famous ones also. if there are any in this category for this film.
nish was so surprised at my filmipanna ; as he called it . ya , i still remembered the complete suurma bhopali’s speech . with all the right pauses n all.
i would remember it , why wudnt i ? i had learned it by heart from a two cassette set that was at my nani’s place. tho the movie had released at the time when i couldn’t speak but its euphoria continued till i did . n my mama maassi et all kinda rataoed me the whole thing during vacations. so vella were they !
n this skill i was asked to display time and again in front of adoring public. which comprised of my other maasis n mamas mostly. n i loved the attention i guess. i continued for quite a while till i outgrew them, maybe.
but i never forgot them, i guess.
why would i forget them now …i didn’t forget the multiplication tables , did i ?
ya there were lots of things tho, which kinda looked weird now. like thakur saab’s get up in the last scene – it was so obvious that his hands were inside the kurta . it was funny.
or that scene whr after the mehbooba mehbooba song jay gets injured , n comes back all crouched up on the horse. in obvious pain , yet .. surprise !!! he starts playing the mouth organ looking at radha, the moment he dismounts . clutching his wound with his other hand. arre somebody bandage the wound first .
there were some more too. but these are tiny points in a film , that is a huge masterpiece. part of every indian’s growing up. All of us have some or the other memory attached to this movie . so much is re-lived every time we watch it .
sholay is still one of my favorite movie of all times.
after all , i don’t remember the dialogues of rest of them .
******************************
made dum biryani the first time on saturday .. n it has been officially appointed the dish for all Saturday lunches to come.
it is not so hard to make. just requires a little patience and advance preparation.
**tip - instead of dough to pack the sides , you can use aluminium foil also . i used both of them :D

“One of the hardest things in life is having words in your heart that you can't utter.” so i intend to write the words. again . here. with honesty. for myself.
